Yes, I did understand about properly marking the graves with stones, trees, etc.
Times were different. The next county over has thousands of graves and no one
knows who those people were. There is one grave marked with a stone that says
"Jane." I truly believe it is my gg grandmother who died in childbirth in 1856
as the gravesite is near other family members, but I cannot prove it.
I only quoted my family heritage to make the point that according to today's standards,
mine were considered qualtiy. Yours was nicely stated and I understood your message.
My mother and I went to Shiloh a long time ago, and I will never forget her looking
at the burial pits saying, "Just look how they treated our boys."
My message was that these men were better than the the way they were treated
whether they got the burial pit or the swamps, it was a terrible disgrace in my
opinion. Of course, I am using today's standards.
