You make a good point up to the last paragraph. What evidence do you have the bodies of dead Union soldiers at Ft. Wagner were treated differently than in other battles? If you are speaking about the assault that was depicted in Glory, then the black soldiers were considered traitors and that was insulting to the defenders. Consequently, Col. Shaw was not given an officer's burial. And that is not intended as a defense for desecrations of any bodies.

Now, comparing apples to apples, what other prison officials, besides the hosts of Camp Douglas, deliberately dumped dead prisoners into unmarked graves? Over 4,000, perhaps 6,000 men who died one at a time from deprivation of basic humane care.
