Moffit's Confederate service from the Nat'l Archives. Although I have been unable to obtain proof, I feel certain that the man buried at Emory & Henry College was my ancestor. Mountain Rifle Regiment Tennessee Volunteers; CaptainForrests's Company and Company B, 5th Tennessee RegimentProvisional Army; and Company B, 25th Regiment TennesseeInfantry. The regiment was organized September 11, 1861, andaccepted into the service of the Confederate States October31,1861. It was known in the field as the 5th TennesseeRegiment Provisional Army and as the Mountain Rifle RegimentTennesseeVolunteers, but was officially designated the 35thRegimentTennessee Infantry by the A. & I. G. O. It wastemporarily consolidated with the 48th (Nixon's) RegimentTennessee Infantry by S. O. No. 3 Hd. Qrs..
