Samuel M. McKamy, 24, 1st Lieutenant, Captain Henry D. Giesler’s Company, 1st Battalion Tennessee Infantry,* joined for duty and enrolled April 2, 1862 at Morristown by Henry D. Giesler for 12 months, present at the May/June, 1862 muster, resigned “in consequence of his ill state of health,” August 22, 1862 listing his Post Office address as Whites Store, Sullivan County, Tennessee, signing as 1st Lieutenant, Co. F, Col. Cooke’s - Regt. Tenn. Vols. and signing his last pay voucher as a member of Company F, 73rd Regiment Tenn. Vols.**

* This company subsequently became Company F, 59th Tennessee Infantry.
The 1st (Eakin’s) Battalion Tennessee Infantry, which was originally formed of five independent companies, was organized about February 17, 1862. It was increased to a regiment by the addition from time to time of new companies and officially designated the 59th Regiment Tennessee Infantry, June 30, 1862, but was also known in the field as Cooke’s Regiment Tennessee Infantry.

** Believe the original designation was the 73rd Tennessee Infantry

Note, the regiment was mounted in Nov/Dec, 1863 and served thereafter as a Cavalry Regiment

Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served in Organizations from the State of Tennessee

Note, his file contains his written letter of resignation detailing his medical condition along with the Surgeon’s certificate as to his health. Difficult to read on-line His record, consisting of nine cards, may be procured through a service provided by these message boards at:
