In checking into this, I found a description in the Civil War Talk website that sounded like Lt. Rowland J Beatty of the 5th Iowa Cav Co. M was the one who murdered George and John Hinson. However, through Find a grave I found that Rowland Beatty died in 1919 and is buried in Illinois. So that at least eliminates Beatty.
