I believe my 2nd great grandfather James Meridith Thaxton was enlisted in the 18th infantry company e, fought and was captured at the battle of Fort Donelson, exchanged at Vicksburg, fought again at Resaca Georgia, where he was wounded and later died of his injuries at a convalescent hospital in Rome, GA. I think he is probably buried at the Resaca confederate cemetery. I am going to attend the Resaca civil war reenactment in the spring of 2018 and would love to share research with anyone else who might have more information about the 18th infantry.
