I'm assisting a same-surnamed family in finding info on their ancestor. He was born about 1842 in TN, then later (not sure when) he settled in Madison County, Alabama and raised a family. The oral history is that he was given 40 acres after the war as a reward for his service. I have been unable to find him in TN, AL, or the US Army. I also searched the Confederate database, no luck. Any info appreciated!
