He very well might have been coerced back as Blacksmiths must have been in high demand for Cavalry units.

George W. Hill, 22, Private, Capt. H.L. Fowlkes’ Company, 4th Regiment Tennessee Volunteers,* enlisted May15,1861 at Germantown, Tenn. for 12 months, wounded at Shiloh, in the leg, severely, April 6-7, 1862, discharged June 15, 1862, on enlistment a 25 year old Blacksmith, born in Franklin Co., Tenn., 5’ 10”, light complexion, grey eyes, sandy hair

* This company subsequently became Company K, 4th Regiment Tennessee Infantry

………………

George W. Hill, Private, Company E, 10th (DeMoss’) Tennessee Cavalry, enlisted December 7, 1862 at Waverley, Tennessee by Col. Johnson fort war, recorded at the July 22, 1863 muster as absent having deserted July 2, 1863, POW surrendered at Citronelle, Ala. May 4, 1865 and paroled at Gainesville, Ala. Note, there are no subsequent Co. E muster rolls found in the records. Hence, we can assume he returned to duty
