Thanks George for your extensive research. I think you have located my great uncle Joseph Berry James. His parents Joe and Rachael are living in Jackson County, Alabama according to the 1860 U.S. Census. Joesph Berry James is 14 living in Franklin County, Tennessee in the 1850 U.S. Census...the Tennessee Alabama state line separates both counties. Since his parents live in Jackson County, Alabama I can see Jospeh enlisting on September 8, 1863 in Stevenson, Ala...which is located in Jackson County. Again, thanks for the research!
