Your memory is correct. A fellow by the name of Thomas Spratt completed a series of books of Virginia soldiers who served during the Civil War and where they are buried in Virginia and in other states. His work was done mostly in the 1990s and is extensive, 20 volumns (it wouldnt have been as many but it was published in large fonts). He published his work as 'Virginia Men In Gray, Interments'.
