It is my understanding they protected all people regardless of race. I would like some specific instances of the law being broken and the Klan stepping in to uphold this law. I am interested in how and when the Klan became a "racist" organization and when this organization got away from the original intent with which it was formed. I will be checking out the sources you mentioned including the book by your aunt.
