I don't see a record for anyone named Riley Bird or Byrd. However, there was a Confederate quartermaster named Joseph F. Minter who served with the rank of Major. There was also an officer named John A. Minter who was captain of Co. "H", 40th Tennesseee Regt. He eventually rose to the rank of Colonel.
