My great great grandfather was a prisoner of Rock Island and became a Galvanized Yankee. He was originally a CSA soldier in the Company I, 5th Mounted Infantry of Kentucky. He took the loyalty oath and went west in the Union. I found a Henry D. Combs in the Union’s 7th Illinois Cavalry. Could this be my Henry? Can anyone direct me to a list of Rock Island soldiers who were Galvanized into the Union Army and where they went from there?
It was interesting to read about Galvanized Yankees in the Navy too.
