Hi Glenn,
my g-g-g-grandfather was a private with the 1st TN Natonal Guard under Captain Goldman Bryson. His son, my g-g-granduncle James K. Morrow was 1st Lieutenant, though on this record it show's 2nd Lieutenant. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4the3sratledges/1tnng.html
To read the battle of the Unicoi Turnpike...http://www.telliquath.com/unicoi.htm
also type into your search engine A Century of lawmaking for a New Nation: U.S. Congressional documents and debates, 1774-1875...there you will find an act of Congress authorizing the 1st Tn Guard as being able to recieve all pensions etc. as an Union unit.

Hope this helps...James.
