Re: Confederate Adjutant and Inspector General's R

Gerald, I am in a similar situation as this man. My 2nd great-grandfather, Pvt. Richard R. Chaddick of the 7th Mississippi Infantry, Company C has one of those cards in his service record showing his having recieved the Confederate Medal of Honor for his actions at Murfreesboro. Its just a card stating the subject as "Medal of Honor" and is from the Adjutent & Inspector General's office. I am familiar how these MoH were recieved, by regimental vote, but I've always hoped that somewhere there would be a narrative, even a brief one, of why he was selected. I do know he was wounded "in front of the breastworks". That much I got off the Roll cards, but its all I know. I doubt seriously I will ever get to the Nat. Archives to hunt this down either.

P.S.___ FYI, he is mistakenly listed in Gregg Clemmer's Valor in Gray as Richard B. Chaddick.
