Re: Confederate Adjutant and Inspector General's R

Hello Phillip,

There are a few microfilm files that will be of sue to you.

1) CS Adjutant General Rolls - M410 - Index to Letters Received by the Confederate Adjutant General and the CS Quartermaster General - this file may have the name you seek and, in which case, it will direct you to sources in this file:

2) Letters Received by the Confederate Adjutant and Inspector General - M474 - this is a very overlooked file and the index should help you find the roll to use.

3) Letters and Telegrams Sent by the Confederate Adjutant and Inspector General - M627 - This is the obverse of the file above - communications going out fromt his office. There may be something about your man here too.

4) CS Staff Officers - M331 - this file, done alphabetically, also has loads of information on CS medical officers. It has one of two overlooked CS files that most researchers miss completely and it is well worth investigating.

The "M" letters are the microfilm group headings. Late last year the National Archives in DC redid their microfilm room (it is much better) and these files are very easy to find.

Hope this helps.

Greg Biggs
