Re: Confederate Adjutant and Inspector General's R

Thank you all for the information. Can anyone reccomend a competant and honest researcher to do research in the National Archives?

Now for more questions. Does anone know what happened with the Confederate hospitals after the Batle of Murfreesboro? I have read that the Army of Tennesse retreated toward Tullahoma so quickly that the wounded and many of the hospital personnel were left in Murfreesboro. My great great grnadfather Richard E. Shelton was with the 1st Carter's Tennessee Cavalry which partifipated in the December 62 Murfreesboro campaign. My great aunt (born 1903) told me that her grandfather was captured and was "put in jail by the Yanks" in Nashville. Nobody in the family knows during what period that was. Is there any way to find out from Federal prison records? Could this be why he lost his commission.
