Franklin Skirmish, Dec. 26th, 1862

I am researching the cavalry skirmish that occurred at Franklin, TN on December 26th, 1862. On that date the Federal Army of the Cumberland, under William Rosecrans, began its movement against Bragg's Army of Tennessee, which resulted in the Battle of Stones River.

Colonel Lewis Zahm commanded the Union cavalry brigade that skirmished with the Confederate cavalry units that screened Franklin that day. I have scoured the OR and the various Union regimental histories to obtain at least a skeletal outline of the skirmish events. Beyond that, however, I have found very little. I would be most appreciative of any suggestions towards additional resources (letters, diaries, journals, etc.) that may be out there.

Colonel Baxter Smith, I believe, commanded the Rebel cavalry force at Franklin. Southern resources about this engagement seem to be severely limited.
