While this happened in Louisville KY.not TN. theses are officers of Buell's Army involving Gen.Jeff C.Davis U.S.and Gen.Nelson U.S.,Sept.29 1862."General Jeff C.Davis shot General Nelson at the Galt House this morning,at eight o'clock. The insult arose from General Nelson slapping General Davis in the face.Davis drew a pistol ,and shot; the ball entered Nelson's breast, and he died in about twenty minutes. From the best information I can get, Davis was justified in shooting. The insult was too much to bear."
