I have 2 collateral ancestors whose service records indicate they died in early 1863 at Fort Pickering, TN during an outbreak of illness. I can only assume they were buried there as they are not found in the family cemetery back in Illinois. The 3rd brother, my direct ancestor, also became ill but, after becoming paralyzed, he was discharged and made it home to IL in time to die.

Can anyone help with info regarding soldiers who might have been buried at Fort Pickering? Actually, can anyone tell me where Fort Pickering was/is?

These men served in Company D, 117th IL Inf. Their surname was McPherson.
