I have just started looking into the 63rd, due to the fact that I have found a GG Uncle that served in Co.C. I have the book from Hawkins County which lists the records of most of the men from Hawkins County. The record shows that Garbiel Moles deserted from the hospital March of 1863. I was a little disapointed. However, after looking at the book it seems that almost every man in Co.C is shown as AWOL or "deserted". I have heard that some folks that wrote down these records would put "deserted" on anything. It seems imposible that 95% of the men in the unit would have deserted. I would be interested to see if any other researchers have run into this.
