I have a letter written during the civil war from my relative, Capt. William McNeeley Gourley of Company A., 13th TN Volunteer Cavalry where he tells about the battle in which Morgan was killed.

Capt. Gourley was killed at the Battle of Saltville (Marion, Va.,) on the morning of Dec 16, 1864, by a Col. Gilleon of Vaughn's Brigade.
