Yes, this info is from the service cards from the National Archives and the prison records of Camp Morton. He is just listed as JS Cunningham. We think he is my ancestor, but need more info.
The unit is not listed as Carter's or Roger's, but just 1st Tn Cavalry, Company D. This unit was closely linked with Carter's and I had relatives in this unit also. Many were captured together at Staunton, Va. Camp Morton info could supply no further info. Thanks for the interest.
