Rogersville (also called Rogersville Junction) appears on the official atlas, plate 142:C-5.

This man actually belonged to the 16th Georgia Partisan Ranger Battalion, Co. "D", enlisted at Gainesville GA Mar. 5, 1863. The battalion was involved in an action near Rogersville TN, Nov. 6, 1863. Confederate losses were reported as ten killed and wounded. That was the most significant fight there during the war.

Parts of this command operated near Rogersville (or Rogersville Junction) during 1864, so that date could be correct. Skirmishes took place at Rogersville on Aug. 21 and Oct. 8, 1864. During Stoneman's Raid into SW Virginia, another skirmish took place at nearby Big Creek Gap on Dec. 12, 1864. It's also possible that this man was killed by bushwhackers and his death not involved in any real military action.
