Confederate Soldier James Carroll

For several years I've been attemping to establish the Civil War service of my paternal grandmother's maternal grandfather. Her paternal grandfather was a East Tennessee Union soldier from Sullivan County who died a p.o.w. All I know about the maternal grandfather is that he to, died in the Civil War. His name was James W. ( William ) Carroll also from Sullivan County, upper East Tennessee. His widow, Nancy Cox Carroll, apparently never drew any type of pension. Family oral history ( that I don't put much stock in ) say " he was killed in one of the War's final battles around Richmond, Virginia and the army ( don't know which one ) wouldn't allow the body to be returned home. I have read in the OR of a James Carroll, Co.A 63rd Tennessee ( Confederate ) being singled out for distinguished service at the battle of Drewry's Bluff and dieing of his wounds in 1864 ( in Virginia ) but Company A was from Claiborne County. I recently discovered that the Confederate 5th TN.Cav. was a East Tennessee regiment. There's a James Carroll listed but unassigned to any company. Does anyone have access to their rosters that may be able to tell me if this James Carroll was from Sullivan
County. Some time ago I thought I had him placed in the Union 1st Tenn National Guard and being one of the men killed by Vaughn's Confederates in Monroe County. I've since seen evidence saying that James Carroll was from North Carolina. Didn't mean to " write a book " Hope someone can help me out. About ready to give up !!!!!

Thanks, Glenn
