My ancestor was 2nd Lieutenant Samuel J. Tarver in the 2nd TN Volunteer Cavalry (Union). About the middle of November, 1864 the regiment was divided. Half went to Nashville and participated in the Battle of Nashville and the other half remained at Decatur, AL and chased Gen. Hood's retreating army. Is there a way to find out which companies or individual troopers went to Nashville and which stayed at Decatur? Thanks in advance.
