Frank James

Anyone know anything about this story?

Johnny Cox on Frank James

The following has been handed down by the Hamblin
descendants in Whitley Co., KY
as repeated by Johnny Cox, Sr.

"Frank James did visit the Hamblin family at
Clearfield, TN and would stay around
for a while. At one time there was to be a public
hanging at the Court House at
Tazewell, TN. Frank wanted to witness this hanging -
so he went there and - It
was said - he walked down to the front of the
bleachers. A man was sitting on the
end and, they say, Frank James tapped the man on the
shoulder and said 'I would
like to have your seat.' It was said, the man looked
up at him and replied 'You
may have my seat.'

"It has always been my thought that Frank James had
some ties to the Hamblin
family, or got to know Dant and George W. Hamblin
during the Civil War."

Johnny also said that he thinks that Frank James may
have come back to TN,
changed his name, and lived there the rest of his life
near Dant Hamblin.
