I am hoping perhaps someone can help solve a bit of a mystery on my hands. I recently came across a former Union soldier named Henry Varble who served in the 22nd Indiana Infantry. He was wounded at Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864 but the problem is that regiment was not at Franklin, it was with Sherman heading toward Savannah, Georgia. I have no hard evidence indicating how or why Varble ended up at Franklin. My only guess is that his four year enlistment ended in Aug 1864 (he signed up in Aug 1861) and he was reassigned to another unit but his records remained tied to the 22nd Indiana. This seems like a stretch but I can think of nothing else.
