Reclaimation of the Franklin Battlefield Site

On November 30, 2005 (an anniversary of the Battle of Franklin), Daryl Masters and other Civil War re-enactors attended a ceremony for the demolition of an old Pizza Hut on Columbia Avenue. The site was acquired by the city of Franklin for battlefield reclaimation.

Thomas Cartwright, executive director of The Carter House in Franklin, took the initial swing with a sledge hammer at the former Pizza Hut building as the demolition began.

This site will become a park in memory of those heroic soldiers who died during the Battle of Franklin.
