I recently went over the CMSR microfilm for the soldiers of the 14th TN Inf and noticed at the start of the first reel that all companies of the 14th were apparently not actively involved in the fighting at Gettysburg. G Company for example was mentioned as having been actively involved at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville, but there was no mention of Gettysburg, although there were some G company men captured or wounded at Gettysburg according to their individual records.

Does anyone have knowledge or thoughts on this? If G company was not involved, what would the reasoning have been for keeping it in the rear?
