Actions in Shelby County, April 1864

My ggg grandfather Weatherford was in the 17th Tenn Cav Battalion (one of its Miss Companies). His military records reflect he was captured in Shelby County on April 5 or 12, 1864. One record reflects by the US 4th Missouri Cav.

It is possible he had deserted; his last record with the 17th Battalion (very early January) states he had been AWOL since Christmas Eve 1863. The 17th Tennessee Battalion was offically joined with the like-numbered 17th Miss Battalion to form Miller's Miss Regt (later the 9th Miss Cav) in December 1863, and the regiment, with the rest of Ferguson's Brigade, was purportedly sent from NE Miss to the Jackson area in late January 1864. I say purportedly because, while it is clear the 17th Miss Battalion was in the Jackson area, Maj. Sanders, the commander of the 17th Tenn Battalion, was himself captured in NE Miss in mid to late February. Ferguson's reports of the time also talk of Miller, and the portion of the regiment with him, being sent on a reconissance further south. So I am not exactly for certain where the 17th Tenn Battalion was in April 1864. The Battalion contained only three companies, so it often seems overlooked in reports.

Was there any actions in Shelby County, or activity by Confederate cavalry in that county, in late March and early April 1864?
