Re: Silverdale confederate cemetery

Sir,

What organization are you representing? When you say "we," please qualify the collective group you are representing.

The Silverdale Cemetery is overseen I believe by members of the Chattanooga Area Relic & Historical Association who have served as trustees of the Silverdale Confederate Cemetery. (see http://www.carha.org/ and http://www.carha.org/id20.htm). The Association has cared for the cemetery since 1979.

As far as other organizations, you may want to check with the N.B. Forrest Camp of the SCV, the Chattanooga Civil War Roundtable (see http://www.chattanoogacwrt.org/), and the A.P. Stewart or Battle of Missionary Ridge Chapters of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

I know this has been on ongoing project for these organizations for a number of years. What it will take to get a PARTIAL list is identifying all the regiments in and around the Tyner Station area during the a chunk of 1862. The soldiers buried here died predominantly of disease during that time period. One would likely need to go through each of the regiment's Compiled Military Service Records and look for references to soldiers dying of disease during that time period. I am not sure if the Samuel H. Stout papers cover this time period because it would be at the beginning of his Hospital Administration of the hospitals of the Army of Tennessee.

A cautionary note: Soldiers that are buried here could have been brought from anywhere along the railroad between Chattanooga and Knoxville.

Good luck in your search.

Respectfully,
