That lack of documentation of the irregular unit is the bases of my dilema. I feel that my three greats grandfather, Frederick Highsaw who had served under Bledsoe in the 4th deserted the 25th Inf. to join the irregular service. With no unit documentation I can not prove nor disprove my theory. His life from deserting to his death at the hands of bushwackers, notibly his nephew, remains a mystery. I must thank you Allan,for the link to the 4th information because it states that Co. F was armed with Navy revolvers. This makes the .36 caliber bullet mold, that I inherited through his son, possibly Frederick's.
