Colonel John H. Miller - Fighting parson

Does anyone know about Colonel John H. Miller, who organized the First Battalion of Mississippi cavalry in the spring of 1861 at Union City, Tenn. (who had long before been Captain of the Pontotoc Dragoons).

He was known as a "fighting parson". I'm trying to find out how he got the nickname "fighting parson". Yes, I can add 1 + 1 and figure out he was a preacher who fought in the Civil War, but was there something about him that stood out as remarkable?

I am aware of his brutal murder, but I'm looking more for anecdotes/stories about his nickname...was there some event that earned him the title "fighting parson"?

Thanks.
