Joseph R. Bullock 49th Tennessee

Joseph R. Bullock of Montgomery County, Tennessee apparently joined up with G Co.,49th TN Infantry in December of 1861 at Palmyra, Tennessee. I've just found out that his family's bible lists October 15, 1862 as his date of death. Previously, I had assumed that he had died or been killed at Ft Donelson as I have not been able to find record of him with the 49th prisoners at Camp Douglas. Obviously, he wasn't killed at Donelson if the family record is correct.

I know the 49th was paroled on September 26, 1862 and sent to Vicksburg for exchange, but were not declared as being exchanged until November 10, 1862. Was there any contact with the enemy prior to November 10? Is it more likely that Joseph's death was the result of disease? To my knowledge, there is no CMSR for this man, other than the mention of his name.

I believe him to be buried in his family's cemetery here in Montgomery County in an unmarked grave. I would like to try and get him a marker through the veteran's administration, but without some form of official record, I don't think I have much of a chance at this point. Does anyone have any ideas?
