I go through there on the way to visit my daughter in Chattanooga. The monument[s] are adjacent to I-24 as you approach the city from West to East.

When the leaves are off the trees, you can get a quick glimpse of one or more monuments, but the high speed interstate traffic is heavy in that stretch, and the road is hilly and full of curves, so you don't have much time except for a nervous glance.

I believe it is a monument for a Union brigade [or perhaps battery] tha was involved in the affair at Wauhatchie [as Jim indicated].

Lookout Creek and Lookout Mountain are visible to the east on this stretch of I-24.

I have thought about stopping for a closer examination, but I'm afraid you would be risking life and limb to do so. The monument sneaks up on you, as there is no signage alerting you to its presence.

You also have to be pretty careful while touring along the top of Missionary Ridge in your car. Very curvy and narrow road, with only a few places to pull over. But, the view is worth it. Love to go sightseeing in the Chattanooga area.

I'll try and get a better look on our next trip, but these old eyes are usually a little road weary by then.
