In Response To: Battle of Shiloh ()

I'm lucky to be here today. One of my gg grandfather's was William Thomas Daniel served with the GA 34th and 59th. Lucky for me his son, my great grandfather arrived before he died trying to return from Vicksburg.
Another bit of good news for me was that my other gg grandfather survived the war at all. His name was John Quincy Adams Shaver and he served with the 19th Tn. From what I saw at Shiloh if I understood correctly he was in the Hornet's Nest. He walked away from that battle.(By the grace of God). His second big brush with death came after his capture at Chickamauga. He was sent to Camp Douglas until the war was over. He told stories of eating the rats to survive that experience. My great grandmother was born after he returned home, so guess my grandmother and her 8 other siblings and their descendents were meant to be here. We come from the two youngest children of these men two men who met later and married, two men willing to give all and one did give all.
