The Tennessee in the Civil War Message Board

Confederate Historical Association

I have a reprint of Old Guard in Gray by J. Harvey Mathes. This book is a listing of members in the C.H.A. that had or were residing in Memphis, TN up to the time the book was published in 1896. Each of the members listed in this book have a short bio about them. Some are only a couple of sentences, some are a couple of pages. There are also illustrations (portraits) in this book. However, this being a reprint, the quality is not the best. I will be glad to look up any requests and forward you the entry, if any, from this book about the person you are researching. Just email me at turn692@bellsouth.net and in the subject line of the email, please enter CHA or Confederate. John Turner
Here is an example of one small entry.
Shelby, J.M., private Company D, Fourth Tenn: enlisted May 1, 1861; was captured at Shiloh April 7, 1862, and released on 11th of that month; was wounded at Perryville and Franklin; paroled May 1, 1865. Admitted to this Association January 8, 1895.
