The Tennessee in the Civil War Message Board

Hello. Just found your posting re: civil war pensions of Shiloh veterans.
If you would be interested in one on a man from the 8th Arkansas, I can get my long lost cousin to send it your way.
J. D. Pearce was a Tennessee native who was living in Arkansas when the war started. His brother, the one who went out and picked him up from the battle and who was still living in Tennessee at the time, filed out the papers for the widow's pension I think it was. It was an interesting story. After the war, Pearce returned to his home in Mifflin, Tenn. but later came on to central Arkansas.
The cousin has a diary that has how much powder, etc. was used at each battle. I always thought that might be helpful as far as understanding some battles.
Pearce was an ordinance Sgt. He was one of the few of the 8th who lived through the war. He was at the Hornet's Nest and bathed his wounds at the Bloody Pond.
Just write me back if you are interested. It is MissLata@sbcglobal.net
Thanks-
