You can order the Compiled Military Service Record of your ancestor through this Message Board by going to the link at the top of the page. This record may have some information on your ancestor's service. If your ancestor survived the war, he or his widow may have filed for an Indigent Veteran or Widow's Pension through the Federal Government (since he fought for the Union). If he or his widow did then this would contain information that would be of genealogical interest to you.
