The military records of my ancestor George Harper states that he contracted smallpox and was put off the boat at Chattanooga TN and placed in the "smallpox hospital" where he died March 28, 1865. He was in the Missouri Volunteers Infantry, Union Army. Does anyone have any idea where the smallpox hospital was and where these men might have been buried or what might have been done with their remains? What about any records? Thanks for any information.
