The Tennessee in the Civil War Message Board

43rd Tennessee

Yesterday, I received a private message from Sandy Herve via the board. My direct response to the query was denied. Perhaps because of the "blind reply" feature removal.

I quote the query and response below.

I would ask that Sandy reply to me directly for exhange of intormation.

Re: 43rd Tenn. Infantry

My GGG Grandfather Zachariah BIGGS enlisted with the 43rd TN Inf., Co. E. He
deserted and then enlisted with with the 4th Reg't TN Inf., Co. E which
subsequently became 1st Reg't TN Cavalry, Co. E. I have his pension records from the National Archives along with family history if you need it. Please let me know.

Thank You,
Sandy Herve

Sandy,

Thank you so very much for offering me information on your gggrandfather.

I am developing a biographical roster of all the members of the regiment hoping to capture as much of their total life as I can.

We will be having a reunion of descendents of the 43rd Tenn. over the period
July 6-9 next month at Ten Mile, East Tennessee off Watts Bar lake, perhaps some 20 miles south of Kingston.

If you are interested I will pass on to you the agenda and contacts.

Here is what I have on Zach:

Biggs, Zacheriah, Pvt. Co. E, age 28, mustered in and enlisted November 5, 1861 at Rogersville, Tenn., recorded on sick furlough May 8, 1862, present at next muster, deserted July 20, 1862 while on sick furlough (M268 Roll 290)

I like to add at the end of each entry, the name and city, state of descendents.
Therefore, I ask you as to where you live.

There are many reasons why men deserted to the other side in East Tennessee, a hot bed of "Lincolnites."

I hope to add to my roster as complete a picture of the lives of each individual as possible. This includes, pre and post war activities, marriages,
occupations, photos, letters, death data, etc.

I would gladly welcome any further information on your ancestor to my roster.

Again, thank you very much for your offer.
