Franklin Battlefield Tour

I would like to let everyone know that on Saturday August 19th at 10 a.m. there will be a public tour of the newly purchased section of the Franklin battlefield. This is the 112 acres of what has become known as the Eastern Flank, specifically the ground W. W. Loring's Division traversed as it advanced toward the Federal left flank on November 30, 1864. Over this ground Thomas Scott's Brigade, Winfield Scott Featherston's Brigade, and John Adams' Brigade pressed forward, subjected to vicious Union artillery fire. Loring's brigades found themselves pummelled by at least sixteen cannon, many of them 3-inch rifled guns which ripped gaping holes in the gray columns.

The upcoming tour is the result of a combined effort of several local Franklin groups and it will be the public's first opportunity to get a guided tour of the sacred ground. Several noted historians will be speaking to the public that day. It should be quite a day so if you can, please come out. In the very near future the ground will converted into a true battlefield park so this will be one of the few if only times to walk it during its transition period. Thanks.
