William C. Knox

I have been told by another Knox decendant that William C. Knox was a brother of my gggg grandfather (Joseph Knox), and that he served in the Confederate Army and died during the war. I am trying to find unit identifications for direct ancestors and their brothers, and I would like to ascertain this man's unit.

From the 1860 census, and information from the other Knox decendant, it appears William C. Knox is shown as W.C. Knox, at Statesville, Wilson County, Tennessee. He was age 34 in 1860.

The Soldiers & Sailors site list three William Knoxs, in the 20th, 23rd, and 62nd Tennessee Infantry regiments. The 62nd would not seem to be a possibility -- I had another ggg grandfather who actually served in it and therefore know its history; it was raised entirely in East Tennessee. Perhaps someone familiar with the other regiments or the Knox family can verify in which unit William C. Knox served.
