Ron --

Forrest successfully raided Murfreesboro in July 1862, not December:

In December of 1862 Forrest and his men were far to the west, across the Tennessee River.

General Bragg withdrew on the night of January 3rd. Within forty-eight hours Federal forces were in complete control of the town. In part Bragg's report reads as follows:

We left about 1,200 badly wounded, one-half of whom we learn have since died from the severity of their injuries; about 300 sick, too feeble to bear transportation, and about 200 well men and medical officers as their attendants. In addition to this, the enemy had captured about 800 prisoners from us.
