Re: POWs in Camp Douglas, a comment

My great grandfather, Pvt. John Marion Tucker, was in Capt. Godwin's Co. 48th Tennessee(Voorhee's). He was captued at Ft. Donelson and sent to Camp Douglas. I believe he suffered from small pox while there. He was exchanged near Vicksburg along with over 800 other prisoners 24 Sept., 1862. He was captured several times and exchanged. He actually was at the battle for Nashville near the end of the war, was wounded there, and captured again in hospital during the retreat from Nashville. During one of his imprisonments he was sent to Alton Military Prison in Alton, Illinois. He died in Columbia, TN in 1888.
