Re: POWs in Camp Douglas, a comment

This is from Jill Garretts book,Confederate Soldiers and Patriots of Maury Co.

Nathan Greer, bro.of William J.married at enlistment in Bibbs Co.prisoner Ft Donelson.never wounded, home after exchange, health ruined in prison, died in Leatherwood Sept.1862.

Also info on William J.,Richard,Milton and Lee Carris Greer all in Captain Vernon Bibbs Co.C mostly from Hickman County.

You did not mention your people in the 9th Battalion Tennessee cavalry until now. Most, but obviously not all of the soldiers in Co.C left with Forrest at Donelson and were not captured with the balance of the Battalion.

My GGGF was John Gresham Co.B and later Battalion Chaplain after the exchange and reorganization from capture at Donelson.I would imagine our ancestors prayed together a few times during the war.
