I had ancestors, a GGgrandfather and his brother, Pleasant W and John Henderson. Both were from Benton county and joined in Paris, Henry County, TN when the unit was raised. The 5th TN was mostly raised in the area of Henry and Benton counties. There was however some problems with their designation. Apparently there were two 5th Tn Inf Reg, and one was later redesignated. The 5th and 4th were consolidated, separated, then consolidated, etc. The 5th TN Inf Reg was in brunt of most of the battles fought by the Army of TN throughout the War. Although most all of my ancestors fought with Mississippi units, I am proud of the service my 2 TN folks performed in the War. P W Henderson was captured and exchanged at least twice, wounded at least twice and was with the unit at surrender. I have never heard of them referred to as an Irish unit. John
