Sandy --

No need to hurry -- this is only the internet, and we hope your mother's condition improves so she can return home.

Daily events for the different companies as well as the regiment are available in Vol. 56 of the Official Records Supplement and run about forty pages or less. This pretty much tells the story. Besides, would you ever have time to wade through 6,000 pages of material and make sense of it all?

A quick glance at the record of events shows nothing along the lines I suggested other than summary executions of men and boys found while on patrol. Events like the one seen recently in the film version of "Cold Mountain" involving Natalie Portman were so commonplace that they would rarely if ever be mentioned by officers. To be fair to the Federal soldiers, Confederate deserters and other outlaw types also preyed on Southern civilians --
