I am looking for information concerning the court martial and execution of a Union soldier in occupied Memphis in the latter half of July, 1863. A letter from a Union soldier states he is the brother of Alex Johnson of the 1st Alabama Cavalry (US) who was himself executed in Corinth on July 25th, 1863 for desertion to the enemy.
